Hybrid Course Format

All courses under the health informatics program are managed online through Blackboard and delivered in the "hybrid" format, which includes:

  • synchronous sessions through Elluminate, featuring:
    • live interaction between the instructor and students
    • regularly-scheduled sessions, held typically once per week, during the early evenings
    • synchronous audio participation requires the purchase and use of a headset and microphone
  • asynchronous course assignments and activities which are completed on your own
  • one 8-hour face-to-face session scheduled on the final session of each semester
  • students living outside the local area are encouraged to make hotel reservations as early as possible
  • at the time you book your reservation, mention that you are a UF student and (depending on the hotel) you may get a discount

UF Email Account

  • Use your UF email account for classroom activities
  • Only your UF email address is “linked” to Blackboard, so your instructor can email you as an individual, as part of a group, or as an entire class
  • Home and work email addresses change frequently, and your instructor can’t keep up, so email your instructor using only your UF account

Email Your Instructor From Home

  • Go to the UF website, logon to UF Mail
  • Compose and send your email message
  • Read all emails in their entirety - important content can be at the end of an email too
  • Review all attachments on the email.  Save files to your own PC as instructed or necessary
  • Follow-through with all requests to reply, follow-ups, etc.
