Additionally, creative and critical thinking are skills that are highly valued in today's fast-paced and competitive job market. Few majors provide you with more highly marketable skills for a variety of careers than the English major.    


AP Stylebook.jpgOur English major is designed to lay a foundation for careers in many areas of the business and professional worlds, providing you with both the expertise and the flexibility needed to succeed after graduation.

The English major is an excellent choice if you are interested in many different professions, including:


  • Publisher

  • Reporter

  • Writer/editor 

  • Novelist

  • Lawyer

  • Teacher 


Events throughout the year provide opportunities for​ you to share your interests in literature, writing and language with others in the community, including local teachers and schools. 


Other opportunities allow for practical training and include working as an intern, attending professional conferences and workshops, and working for the University's Writing Center. Such experiences help make you more attractive to graduate schools as well as prospective employers. Based in part on such training, recent graduates of our program have received scholarships to pursue graduate studies.​
