From the first day I stepped onto UF’s
campus the professors guided me, helped me and gave me advice. I was a transfer
student, I had yet to pin point my end goal after graduation. My adviser Chris
Underation made every attempt to get me to that goal. He did this without
either of us knowing exactly what my goal was. To me, this was the biggest help
I could have received.
I started to aim toward broadcast
journalism even though the University no longer has a broadcast major.
Underation’s solution was to push me in every direction containing an
opportunity to learn broadcast experience and it worked.
The best experience at UF was the
moment I realized I wanted to work in broadcast journalism. It was more than
just finally making a career decision; it was having that feeling of really
knowing what was right for me and where I saw myself after graduation. My
journey of self-discovery was an experience of a lifetime. I learned so much
about myself while at UF, enabling me to not only grow as a person but also as a
professional.
My education led me to where I am now
because I stopped at nothing to reach my goals. I seized every opportunity to
take classes that I knew would enable me to gain the experience I needed. A lot
of classes at UF let students tailor projects and research toward specific
professions and interests.
Each step I took with my education was
an opportunity to bring me toward my goal. My choices and perseverance led me
to where I am now, the Ohio Legislative Service Commission Telecommunications
Fellowship Program. I am one of two 2013 telecommunications fellows working on
the Ohio Channel at the State House.
