Amy Sims - Dual major pays off!
Amy Sims ('08) is a great example of how to combine your interests and have a truly remarkable and enjoyable college experience. Amy chose to pursued a dual major - Business Management and English Equestrian Studies. Amy also participated on the Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) Team. In fact, UF hosted the 2009 IDA National Championships, and Amy was featured on our poster with Scout's Honor.
Amy works as a buyer for a national food distribution company called GreenLine Foods in Toledo, Ohio. The company grows, packages and distributes organic foods such as beans and herbs. Amy also makes time for her passions - horses and Dressage. She will continue to train and compete in Dressage shows.
Some of Amy's favorite memories while attending The University of Findlay include competing at Prix de Villes her sophomore, junior and senior years. She also loved listening to the stories told by Dr. Kerns during Preventative Medicine.
"Of course, hosting IDA Nationals, especially seeing Josh in a coconut bra during the golf cart challenge," she laughed.
When asked what advice she would give to high school students considering a career in the equine business, Amy has some words of wisdom.
"Make sure you pursue a dual major, it will really set you apart and give you that extra edge." "Please take advantage of summer internships, because as much as you might love riding; it is very different actually working in the industry. Internships are a great way to figure out what career path you wish to follow."
