 GA11-01              Jacolyn S. Stephenson
                              Coordinator of Tutoring and Testing Services
                              Academic Support Center

Description:     (Part Time position)  

GA duties include assisting mentoring services, tutoring services, and general office needs.  Provide motivational support to students who are having academic difficulties, and meet with students to address study skills, time management and other related academic issues.  Assist with maintaining accurate records in ACCESS database for tutor visits, update handouts, and assist Director of Office of Disability Services in supporting students’ study, tutoring and testing needs.  General office duties include assisting with scheduling appointments for tutoring and testing, follow up on creative endeavors for office projects, assist with test monitoring, etc.   Specific Qualifications:    Organizational skills with attention to detail, interpersonal skills, confidentiality, and creativity are traits in which we are interested and will help the student develop and refine.   

GA11-02               Christine E. Tulley, Ph.D.Director of the Writing Program
                               Associate Professor of English

Description:      (Full-Time position) 

The GA will assist the Director of Writing with a number of program needs including the following:  Placement of 600 incoming freshman students by test score and transfer credit, pre-requisite checking, and facilitation of schedule changes.  GA will also assist in the collection of data from final portfolio processes in ENGL 104 and 106 and the coordination of ENGL 104 and 145 courses.

Specific Qualifications:  Master’s of Arts in Education students with an Emphasis in AYA/Language Arts preferred. 

GA11-03               Chris Sippel, Coordinator of International Education

Description:   (Full-Time position)    

Focus of the GA would pertain to the promotion and support of study abroad opportunities for UF’s domestic students, staff and faculty.  The GA would serve alongside the Coordinator of International Education in taking further steps in the establishment of a true study abroad office and would continue to work to enhance on-campus intercultural activities and learning opportunities through the Buford Intercultural Student Services Center.       

GA11-04               Josephine Kershaw, Ph.D.
                              Associate Professor of Health Care Management

Description:     (Part-Time position)  

Student will conduct literature reviews, create databases and spreadsheets, and analyze research data using Excel and/or SPSS.  In addition, the GA will maintain undergraduate class recordkeeping, such as attendance rolls and assignment spreadsheets.  The GA will help to proctor exams and conduct other teaching support activities as requested.  The GA will assist in preparing materials and correspondence for the Health Care Management (HCM) Advisory Board meetings and also provide support activities as necessary for the HCM Network student organization, including serving as officer and performing leadership activities that will promote the career development of HCM students.  The GA will follow up on the faculty’s initial searches for relevant grant opportunities and develop a listing of upcoming grant deadlines.   

GA11-05               Valerie Esobedo, Assistant Professor of Art

Description:        (Part-Time position)

Student will work on and educational research project pertaining to the decorative paintings of Edouard Vuillard and Pierre Bonnard.  GA will also work in one of the studio courses as an instructional assistant and studio assistant, assist in updating and maintaining the Visual Arts web pages on Findlay.edu, assist in the development and implementation of an Art Career Day and or Portfolio Review Day for the 2011-2012 academic year.  Student duties also include the installation and organization of the exhibitions in the Lea Gallery and the possible development and implementation of a high school studio workshop.   

GA11-06               Crystal Weitz
                              Campus Compact Center for Service and Learning

Description:        (Full-Time position)

This position is needed to help support Campus Compact’s day-to-day activities and special events.  The GA will work with all Campus Compact personnel, including:  Campus Compact Coordinator, Service Learning Faculty Liaison, AmeriCorps VISTA (if granted), members of the Campus Compact Board, and the work-study student.   While the AmeriCorps VISTA will focus on “outreach” to the Findlay community, the GA will focus on “inreach” to the UF campus community.  Both will work together to community service and service-learning projects based on their interactions on campus and off campus.   GA will also maintain a database of volunteer opportunities, and assist with the assessment of volunteer and co-curricular initiatives. 

GA11-07               Donna Smith, Director, Academic Support Center and   
                              Assistant Professor                                

Description:        (Full-Time position)  Graduate Writing Center

GA duties include providing tutoring to UF graduate students at all stages of the writing process, in any graduate program, at any level, work on a variety of assignments from lab reports and presentations to essays and term papers, guide students to do their own writing which may focus on thesis development as well as punctuation and sentence structure, instruct graduate students to be responsible for the accuracy of the content information in their assignments and papers as graduate tutors are not to be considered to be content experts for any graduate program.  Other duties include doing presentations in graduate classes to promote the Writing Center, contact professors when necessary to clarify assignment requirements or to discuss writing issues, generate promotional materials for the Center, keep accurate records of appointments, work hours, session notes, and schedules, report any issues to the ASC director immediately.

Specific Qualifications:   Be willing to complete writing tutor training in ENGL 490, provide a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, submit a writing sample, possess good communications skills, be available to work two semesters. 

GA11-08               Chris Underation, Assistant Professor of Communication

Description:   (Part-Time position)

GA will assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Pulse.  Will also assist in helping students craft solid stories, oversee the layout of each issue, updating the Pulse’s online assets, running all staff meetings, and handling questions about content, ad placement and so forth.

Specific Qualifications:  Student must be a motivated, a strategic thinker, strong writer and editor, solid administrator and able to manage people of varying skill levels.  Must also have a sense of the basics of design, which requires some level of creativity. 

GA11-09               Penny Soboleski, Assistant Professor of Education and
               Coordinator of the Teacher Resource Center and Reading Clinics

Description:        (Full-Time position)

GA will support the College of Education’s newly organized Teacher Resource Center and the UF “Clubhouse” Reading and Math Program.  Duties include research and identify scholarly materials as requested by COE faculty to support student research projects, organize and catalog research materials, reading and review scholarly materials, collect and organize scholarly reviews to be used by COE faculty, staff, and students.  Also to collaborate with the Teacher Resource Center director and professor of record for the UF Reading Program to select appropriate children’s literature for the tutors.  GA will conduct informational tours of the Teacher Resource Center for students, staff, faculty, and guests.  GA may also assist in gathering data to support grant requests.           

GA11-10               Ron Knopf, Web and Media Technology Services  

(Part-Time position)

Video Description:           This position is to provide applied, experiential learning for the graduate student.  Responsibilities include shooting, capturing, editing and compressing video/audio from appropriate University and community events.  Selecting excerpts and preparing tapes/DVDs as requested, and producing broadcast and electronic media products that appropriately promote UF to a variety of demographic groups.  Assuming and performing selected duties for individual projects, including but not limited to, producer, director, writer, and narrator.  Participating in UF functions as needed.  

Specific Qualifications:   Student must have experience in the Communications field, particularly broadcast technology and videography.  To be eligible the student must be familiar with video equipment and have prior experience covering events as a videographer.  

Web Description:             This position will assist the webmaster with organization and implementation of the v5 scope of work.  GA will also assist in creation of Flash animations/movies for use on the University websites, providing training and support for Student Web Advisory Team, assuming and performing selected duties for individual web projects, and producing products that appropriately promote The University of Findlay to a variety of demographic groups.   

GA11-11               Kenneth R. Speidel, PharmD. Adjunct Faculty, Pharmacy  

Description:      (Part-Time position) 

GA will prepare lab setup for pharmaceutical excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredients, weigh and measure pharmaceutical excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredients to be used in the lab, maintain inventory and glassware.  GA will also attend weekly training session with primary lab instructors to facilitate lab and assist in student-prescriber mock phone calls, and student-patient counseling exercises.  

Specific Qualifications:   Must be a qualified Pharmacy student in the 5th year of the curriculum.  Qualifications include outstanding performance in the College of Pharmacy in general, and in this laboratory in particular.  Previous work-study employment is required.  A person with a prior degree will be preferred.                

GA11-12               John M. Wolper, Ed.D.
                             Associate Professor of Hospitality Management
                             Chair of the Business Administration Programs and Director
                              of Assessment

Description:        (Part-Time position)

GA will continue to contact, develop, and work with the Director to formulate the details in the dissemination of the Sport & Event Management program.  The program is ready to begin marketing to prospective students and to fully integrate the academic schedules starting in the Fall 2011.  GA will work with outside industry and advisory board members to support internships and academic learning.   GA must work with the internal and external requirements of this new major and assist the Director with its administration.     

GA11-13               Suzanne English, Director, Public Information  

Description:        (Part-Time position)

GA responsibilities include reporting to and working with the Director of Public Information to gather academic program information, brainstorm and develop advertising, PR and marketing programs that fit the needs and budget requirements of the programs involved.  GA will also be involved in writing advertising copy, submitting design requests and working with graphic designers to ensure accuracy of content and design and consistency in message.  The GA will represent the University by serving as a liaison with program directors, deans and admissions directors; advertising representatives in the print, broadcast and electronic fields; and partners in the nonprofit field such as GreaterFindlayInc. and the Convention and Visitors Bureau.  

Specific Qualifications:   Must have experience in the Communications field.  Students in the MBA program, some experience in the fields of public relations, advertising or marketing are recommended.  Applications from students in any field who demonstrate strong communication skill are welcome.   

GA11-14               Cynthia (Cyndy) Goodwin, O.T.D.Director and
                              Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy

Description:      (Part-Time position) 

GA will provide assistance to the occupational therapy program by monitoring, updating, and managing the various adaptive equipment used by the program.  GA will also be responsible for assessments and intervention materials stored in the Brewer Center for Health Services occupational therapy labs and the Occupational Therapy Adaptive Living Home on Trenton Ave.  GA will provide a comprehensive inventory of all of the department’s holdings, updating of an existing database, labeling of all materials, recommendations for purchase of new and replacement equipment, assessments and materials.  In addition, the GA will survey the OT Home on a weekly basis to make sure that everything is in order, and provide tours to public groups as needed.  

Specific Qualifications:  Student should be currently in the Occupational Therapy program. 

GA11-15               Robert Schirmer, Director of Shafer Library

Description:        (Part-Time position)

Student will be responsible for the analysis of problems with items and records, personal scheduling as well as planning for the flow of work within the Archives.  Updating the Archives Handbook and finding aids, revising forms used in the Archives, reviewing the library web pages and creating in them a section for the Archives.  There will also be opportunities to help develop a marketing plan to build awareness of the Archives and its collections.  Other responsibilities include filing of materials after their use and sorting through multiple copies of items in order to identify the best ones for retention.       

GA 11-16              Dr. Nabarun Ghose
                              Professor of Marketing and Business  

Description:        (Part-Time position)    India Study Abroad

This research assistantship position would run an equal number of weeks as the Summer Semester for the MBA program.  Students will be guided by the faculty member to develop a paper/presentation each or jointly for presentation at the The India-USA Global Business Conference 2012 in Chennai, India summer 2012 and for presentation and publication in other outlets such as conferences, meetings, proceedings and journals.  Other specific duties such as assisting with logistics before and during India Study Abroad Program summer 2012.  Student will travel and participate in both programs at their own expense.   

Specific Qualifications:   First priority will be given to domestic students because this opportunity will provide them with the opportunity to research foreign administration and operations.           

GA11-17           Almar Walter, Director of Intercultural Student Services

Description:       (Full-time position) 

This position will be used to create more culturally diverse activities and programming for our students at UF.  The position also helps contribute to and, as possible, support all UF initiatives currently existing which promote campus diversity and cultural learning.  Duties include assisting in coordination of yearly activities for students with the director such as Black Student Union events, International Night, Black History Month, Diversity Month programming and all other events sponsored by the office and or The Black Student Union.  Student will also assist with retention and recruitment efforts for students of color, attend administrative meetings with/and in the absence of the director, service as the Co-Advisor of the Black Student Union organization, conduct research and/or published critique to enhance the efficiency and productivity of ISS, direct and manage all facets of ASPIRE mentoring program, perform all clerical duties needed by the department, serve as official transportation liaison for the office needs regarding off campus programming, manage all aspects of Buford Center reservations.  GA is responsible for development of one major diversity program each academic semester.

Specific Qualifications:  Must have the ability to communicate effectively and be sensitive to students from varied cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.  Full knowledge of and commitment to I.S.S. and the University’s policies, procedures, and regulations.  Experience with both underrepresented and international populations, Black Student Union (BSU), Office of Intercultural Student Services (ISS), staff supervision (work study students), and budget administration. 

GA11-18             Kay Koch, Director, SOAR Office  

Description:        (Full-Time position)

GA will serve as a mentor and role model to UF campus community.  Additional duties include accessing, monitoring, inputting and updating databases, monitoring of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) forms, compile mailings and emails, and assist in office coverage.  

Specific Qualifications:  Education or Business major preferred.           

GA11-19               Bryan Golding, Director of Recreational Services

Description:        (Full-Time position)

GA will assist in the day to day operations of the Intramural Program and Recreational Center.  This includes set-up, supervise and clean-up intramural events daily.  Assist in the hiring and training of student employees, monitor intramural equipment, and enforce intramural and UF policy during intramurals.  GA will also assist in updates to the Intramural Handbook, websites, and brochures.   

GA11-20          Lori Colchagoff, Director, Office of Disability Services

Description:     (Full-Time position) 

GA duties include assisting students registered with the Office of Disabilities Services with daily needs as assigned by the Director.  This could involve providing students information about campus resources, assistance with study and organization skills, and assistance with adaptive equipment set-up, scribe and/or read exams for students.  Assist the Director with the hiring process of student employees, input student disability data into ACCESS software, tutor assigned disability students, represent Disability Services at orientations, registrations and college fairs, attend UF ADA committee meetings, mentor UF suspension return students, Co-lead the ODS support Group.           

Specific Qualifications:   Candidate will be expected to have computer skills, above average communication and written skills, experience or interest in working with individuals with disabilities.

                            Director, International Admissions and Services  

Description:        Female Applicants only   (Full-Time position)

Job duties include maintaining and residing in the International Welcome Houses.  GA’s also manage overflow housing and transportation at area hotels at the start of each semester.  Enforce all on-campus rules and regulations, and all check-in and check-out forms and billing of Welcome Houses.  Coordinate flight arrivals, housing requests, insurance information, campus tours, transportation, etc. for new and returning students.  Assist with activities sponsored by International Admissions and Services.  GA’s serve as peer mentors for new and returning students.  Students know they can go to the Welcome Houses after hours and on the weekends whenever they need assistance.
