Available  RA position descriptions 2011-2012

RA11-01             Jill Gear, Director of Grants and Contracts Administration

Description:        (Full-Time position)

To assist the director in locating funding sources for specific projects designated by faculty/staff; keep current database of identified and reviewed funding sources;  maintain individual files of funding sources, including guidelines, examples of funded projects, ect.;  supports Director in compiling information necessary to complete applications; arranges for copying and mailing proposals;  acts as a member of project development team when asked by Director;  aids Director in marketing grants program to faculty/staff- creates flyers, newsletters, ect.

Specific Qualifications:   Strong language and computer skills necessary.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as requests for proposals and Foundation guidelines; ability to proofread and edit documents.  Experience with utilizing software tools and internet search engines; knowledge of Microsoft OfficeSuite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and database applications.   

RA11-02               Arindam Basu Sarkar, Ph.D.
                              Assistant Professor Pharmaceutical Sciences  

Description:        (Part-Time position)

RA will provide support in the completion of several research projects through operating analytical instruments and equipment, generation and interpretation of data, performing laboratory experiments, and carrying out literature research.   

RA11-03               Patricia Abels, D.B.A., CPA
                              Assistant Professor of Business                               

Description:        (Part-Time .75 time position)

RA will assist in preparing publications and manuscripts in proper style for submission, exploring gateways for dissemination of research and funding sources for research activities, exploring existing research and prepare reviews and synthesis of the (pertinent) literature.  Other duties include developing models for data collection, data entry and data analysis, report writing and report presentation; generation of presentation graphics.  Research contemporary business developments for inclusion in curriculum and further the development of instructional methodologies for the online and live classes. 

RA11-04               Richard Dudley, Ph.D.
                              Assistant Professor and Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Description:        (Part-Time position)

RA will assist in research for grant submissions for external funding, research for various publications and presentations.   RA will also assist in the design and plan for a synthetic route using the fewest number of steps possible and retrosynthetic analysis using ChemDraw software.  Analyze small molecule targets using crystal structure data from the Protein Data Bank (PDB) in Visual Molecular Dynamic (VMD) software.  Use of literature evaluation/structure search relating to existing synthetic knowledge using a unique database (SciFinder Scholar).   

RA11-05               Gwynne Rife, Ph.D.  Professor of Education and 
                              Chair of Advanced and Professional Programs

Description:       (Part-Time position) 

RA will assist in data collection and the redesign of surveys for digital delivery, and compile lists of recipients through work with the Ohio Department of Education and other state level databases.  Support in professional activities will also be expected.   

RA11-06               Joseph Martelli, D.I.T.Associate Professor of Business  

Description:        (Part-Time .75 time position)

RA will assist in preparing publications and manuscripts in proper style for submission, exploring gateways for dissemination of research and funding sources for research activities, exploring existing research and prepare reviews and synthesis of the (pertinent) literature.  Other duties include developing models for data collection, data entry and data analysis, report writing and report presentation; generation of presentation graphics.  Research contemporary business developments for inclusion in curriculum and further the development of instructional methodologies for the online and live classes.  RA will also assist in preparing a proposal and draft chapters for a Business research textbook for Pearson Higher Ed Publishing.   

RA11-07               Chris S. Ward, Ed.D.Associate Professor of Business and 
                               Director of Experiential Learning, Student Engagement and 
                               Community Outreach

                              Dan A. Yates, Ph.D.Assistant Professor of Business

Description:       (Part-Time position) 

RA will conduct literature review and expand a current database (in SPSS) to run statistical tests.  RA will assist in the content and development of research and the collection of data, analysis, reporting, and disseminate information.  RA will also help to develop workshops with the TLTC to enhance skills based on observed needs and mentor students.   

RA11-09               Evelyn Buday, Ph.D.Assistant Professor of Psychology

Description:      (Part-Time position) 

RA will assist faculty in research for fellowship position they are applying for at West Point.  RA will assist in investigating the details of individual battles, command tactics of famous commanders, and work to outline a series of papers applying to game theory to two opposing commanders (Lee vs. Grant).   Knowledge of game theory would be a plus, but not necessary.   

RA11-10               Timothy James Murphy, Ph.D.Associate Professor of
                              Environmental Safety and Health Management

Description:       (Part-Time position) 

RA will assist in research activity for a project on natural resource usage that entails the monitoring of resources used on campus along with the development of alternatives to minimize usage.  Scholarly work will also be on a project with solid waste engineering.  Will setup and run experiments on these systems, assist in the interpretation of the results, and develop reports.    Additional time will be spent in assisting in the writing of grants for additional equipment, supplies and time for the projects.  

Specific Qualifications:   Student must be from the Environmental Safety and Health Management Master’s degree program and has a background in physics, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering or hydrology.   

RA11-11               Maria Gamba, Associate Professor of Business and
                              Chair of the Quantitative Programs  

Description:        (Part-Time position)

Student will assist in the identification of the most relevant Title VI grant that will be useful for the College of Business.  Gather and research the materials needed to complete the grant application.  Student must attend grant writing sessions organized by UF’s Grant office.   

RA11-12               Dr. Nabarun Ghose, Professor of Marketing and Business

Description:        (Part-Time Position)

Assist supervisor with research and program and project development and execution.  This includes, but is not limited to tutoring, library research, abstracting articles, creating and maintaining bibliographical records, database maintenance and creation, creation of promotional materials, making presentations, data collection and statistical analysis.  Will be required to assist in the organization and execution of conferences.  Occasional domestic and international travel required.   Assist other faculty with writing international faculty development funding applications.  Assist with grant writing for funding from external sources.  Assist with word processing, mailings, scanning, copying, assembling documents, filings, and other duties as determined or delegated by the supervisor.  Confidentiality is of the up most!  

Specific Qualifications:   Has experience working with SPSS, online library research, eg. OHIOLINK, etc.  Student will also need to be organized, punctual, and dependable.  Can travel occasionally, if necessary.   Prefer graduate students who can make a reasonable longer-term commitment of over one term.   

RA11-13               Judy Wahrman, Professor, College of Education,
                              Director, Graduate Outreach and Partnerships

Description:        (Part-Time position)

RA will assist with research for College of Education’s Graduate Outreach and Partnerships program Professional Development projects.  This includes the writing and coordinating of grants and opportunities related to our mission.  RA will be responsible under faculty supervision for collecting data, organizing data, data analysis, preparing spreadsheets, writing of preliminary and final research reports.  In addition, the RA will establish systems for accurate and consistent communication with educational community members involved with each project.
