Registration Questions
Q. A. New Student Registration is a one-day program in which new students and transfer students will meet with a faculty advisor and register for fall classes. All first time and transfer students must attend a New Student Registration session.
While students are occupied with registration activities, special sessions are provided for the students' family members which will familiarize them with the university, address their concerns as well as provide them with the opportunity to meet our President, Debow Freed, and other faculty and staff members. Although we offer a special invitation to your family to attend New Student Registration, it is not required for family members.
Q. A. Five Registration sessions are offered: Q. A. Simply complete the New Student Registration RSVP card and drop it in the mail by the due date indicated a t the bottom of the card. On the card, we ask that you indicate your preferred dates of attendance. We will make every attempt to honor your choices. However, due to space restrictions, only a limited number of students can attend a given program. We will send you a confirmation letter indicating your scheduled date. Q. A. Yes. All students are assessed a one-time fee of $100, which covers the registration program and meals, as well as the orientation weekend programming throughout the first year. This fee will show up on your final bill.
Q. A. Placement tests are utilized for evaluation of your ability to be placed in course work at UF. Placement in a course with the appropriate level of challenge is vital to your success in the classroom. By having results of the various tests, academic advisors are better able to advise for class registration. Specific instructions about the online placement tests will be included in your confirmation packet once you have responded with you selected date of attendance.
Writing Placement Test-Students will be placed into a writing course based on their ACT or SAT scores. ENGL 104 College Writing 1 is the typical starting point for first-year students and for transfer students who do not already have credit for a college writing course. However, students who demonstrate strong verbal skills and strong academic reading ability on the ACT or SAT exam may enter directly into ENGL 106 College Writing 2."
Math Placement Test-The purpose of the Mathematics Placement Test is to determine if your first mathematics class at The University of Findlay should be pre-calculus or calculus. You should only take the test if you are comfortable with the topics of trigonometry, logarithms and exponential functions AND you wish to register for calculus your first semester. Typically, a student who will take this test has studied trigonometry, elementary functions and/or calculus at the high school level. You can not take calculus at UF without taking the Mathematics Placement Test. This test is only available online; therefore, you must take the test prior to your registration date.
Language Placement Test- If you have taken two or more years of French or Spanish, it is highly recommended that you take this test. If you place sufficiently high, you will earn foreign language credits. Please take the Reading, Grammar and Vocabulary Section of the test online before you come to Registration. Q. A. During New Student Registration, lunch and break-time beverages will be provided for all students and their family members. Overnight accommodations are not provided for family members. There will be a hotel listing available in your confirmation packet. Students attending the final registration and who will be living in residence halls or University-owned houses will be moved into their assigned rooms. Overnight accommodations are not available for commuting students for any of the sessions.
A. We recommend that everyone wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
Q. A. Yes. New Student Orientation is a three-day program for all new students and all transfer students, which begins the Friday before fall classes. Because New Student Orientation provides you with answers to your important questions, all new and transfer students are required to attend. New Student Orientation presents you with the opportunity to familiarize yourself with he campus and establish friendships with new and returning students. Most importantly, New Student Orientation is an opportunity to learn about strategies and resources to help you make the most of your college experience.
Q. A. New Student Orientation will take place August 22-24,2008. Orientation information will be mailed in early August.
Q. A. Yes. Since New Student Orientation is designed specifically for new and transfer students, only new and transfer students are required to attend.
Q. A. Students who are attending the final New Student Registration will be allowed to move into University housing Wednesday, August 19. Students who attended one of the other four New Student Registration sessions will move into their assigned rooms on Friday, August 21. Overnight accommodations are not available for commuting students or their family members.
