​College of​ Liberal Arts Scholarships

All endowed scholarships are available to UF sophomores, juniors and seniors. A limited number of scholarships are available to incoming freshmen, and these scholarships are awarded as part of the regular freshman admissions process. Endowed scholarships range from $500 - $1,500 each year. 


Catherine Achord Spanish Scholarship 

  • Awarded to students majoring in Spanish, holding junior or senior status with a 3.0 GPA or better
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established by Catherine Achord, retired director of the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library 


Barry Alexander Memorial Theatre Scholarship

  • Awarded to outstanding theatre majors who have financial need
  • One to two scholarships awarded annually*
  • Established by the students, alumni, friends and colleagues of Barry Alexander, director of theatre and a ​member of the UF faculty from 1977 until his untimely death of acute leukemia in 1994.      


Dr. Micheal F. Anders Vocal Music Scholarship

  • Awarded to full-time students working toward a bachelor's degree and who are members of the UF Concert-Chorale
  • One to two scholarships awarded annually*
  • Established by Dr. and Mrs. Roy E. Hutchison, the Dr. Micheal F. Anders Vocal Music Scholarship is named for the University’s current chair of visual and performing arts and professor of music.


Minnie Perkins-Basar Memorial Music Scholarship

  • Awarded to students who are assets to the vocal music program at UF, regardless of financial need
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established in memory of Minnie Perkins-Basar, the maternal grandmother of Dr. Micheal F. Anders


Jackson E. Betts Scholarship

  • Awarded to outstanding students studying political science who display the potential for leadership in public affairs and government service 
  • Three to four scholarships awarded annually*
  • Established in honor of Congressman Jackson E. Betts


Norma Dirmeyer Bibler Scholarship

  • Awarded to junior or senior female students who hold a 3.3 GPA or better and are preparing for law school or who have an interest in pursing a career in politics
  • One to two scholarships awarded annually*
  • Established by Norma D. Bibler 


Janice and Dennis Bishop Scholarship     

  • Awarded to students enrolled in the religious studies program who are preparing for Christian ministry and/or church work who have a 3.0 GPA or better
  • One to two scholarships awarded annually*
  • Established by Mr. and Mrs. Dennis E. Bishop 


Ronald C. Cable ’64 Instrumental Music Scholarship

  • Awarded to students who are members of the Oiler Brass Marching Band who exhibit dedication to their musical instruments and a commitment to the instrumental music program
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established by alumnus Ron CableIda Fern (Wayne ’29) and Albert Castile 


Religious Studies Scholarship

  • Awarded to students majoring in religious studies with an emphasis in pastoral or Biblical studies preparing for Christian ministry
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established through a bequest from Fern Castile 

Gregg M. Cheney Memorial Award

  • Awarded to outstanding music students 
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established by the faculty and friends of Gregg M. Cheney in his honor


College First Church of God Scholarship

  • Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students who are members of the College First Church of God and have a 3.0 GPA or better
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established by the elders and congregation of the College First Church of God 


Gary L. Cramer II Endowed Scholarship

  • Awarded to full-time political science majors who have a 3.0 GPA or better
  • Three to four scholarships awarded annually*
  • Established by the family and friends of Gary L. Cramer II 


David J. Faiella Sports Information Scholarship

  • Awarded to full-time students who are communication or sport management majors who hold a 3.0 GPA or better
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established by the friends and family of former UF sports information director David J. Faiella in his memory  


John and Margaret Firmin Scholarship

  • Awarded to junior or senior students who have an outstanding academic record and who are dedicated to theater as demonstrated by excellent participation and growth in theater work
  • One to two scholarships awarded annually*
  • Established by Margaret Firmin ’81 and her husband, John C. Firmin    


Fred and Dorothy Dressler-Gatchel Scholarship

  • Awarded to students who have an interest in music
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established through a bequest from estate of Fred ’20 and Dorothy (Dressler ’19) Gatchel      


Gift of Hope Hispanic Scholarship

  • Awarded to Hispanic or Latino students who are permanent residents of the United States who are majoring or minoring in a foreign language or with an endorsement in TESOL or bilingual/multicultural studies with a 2.0 GPA or better
  • One to two scholarships awarded annually*
  • Established by the undergraduate language and culture program at The University of Findlay


Ms. Elizabeth (Betty Johnson) Harriss ’69 Scholarship

  • Awarded to full-time students in good academic standing who want to major in theatre
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established by Elizabeth Harriss, a 1969 graduate of Findlay College


Donald W. Hennigs Memorial Vocal Music Scholarship

  • Awarded to full-time students who are members of the UF Concert-Chorale and the UF Singers, and are actively involved in the general vocal music program
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established by the family of Don Hennigs (1933-1996) in honor of Don’s love and support of musical entertainment and his commitment to its importance in the everyday life of a well-rounded person


International Center Endowed Scholarship

  • Awarded to students pursuing a major in languages through the language and culture department
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established by the friends, alumni and the faculty of The University of Findlay International Center 


Harry M. and Mary Snyder Kirk Vocal Music Scholarship

  • Awarded to students who are members of the Concert-Chorale and are actively involved in the vocal music program and who have a 3.0 GPA or better
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established with the proceeds from the Mrs. Mary Snyder Kirk Charitable Remainder Trust


Worth H. Kramer Scholarship

  • Awarded to graduate or undergraduate students majoring in communication with first preference to students pursuing a career in radio broadcasting
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established by Mary Trevorrow Kramer, the wife of Worth H. Kramer, to honor her husband


Gwen L. Kuenzli Scholarship

  • Awarded to outstanding juniors or seniors who are pursuing a degree in the College of Liberal Arts, with preference given to communication majors who hold a 3.0 GPA or better
  • Two to three scholarships awarded annually*
  • Established by Mildred G. Naus in honor of her daughter, Gwen L. Kuenzli, a UF faculty member from 1983 to 2001 


zli/Harada International Student Scholarship

  • Awarded to international students at UF
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established by students and friends of The University of Findlay to honor Gwen L. Kuenzli and Dr. Fumiko Harada


Ralph Marlow Line ’27 Scholarship

  • Awarded to students majoring in philosophy or a related subject
  • One to two scholarships awarded annually*
  • Established by the estate of Ralph Marlow Line 


J. Paul Mellott Instrumental Music Scholarship

  • Awarded to students who play instruments at UF with preference being piano or organ
  • One scholarship awarded annually*

Marvin “Monty” Monroe ’42 Scholarship

  • Awarded to students majoring in political science or preparing for public service in government or politics
  • One scholarship awarded annually*

Robert J. and Janice L. Montague Service Scholarship    

  • Awarded to students who are enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts who demonstrate leadership qualities and a commitment to serving others, either through volunteerism or other forms of civic engagement, who hold a 3.2 GPA or better. First preference given to communication majors with second preference to English majors
  • One scholarship awarded annually*
  • Established by Dr. Diana M. Montague, a faculty member at UF, to honor her parents, Robert J. and Janice L. Montague


Dr. Jean C. Nye Music Scholarship

  • Awarded to full-time students participating in a vocal and/or instrumental music program at UF
  • Two to three scholarships awarded annually*
  • Established through the generosity of family and friends of Dr. Jean C. Nye in her honor

  • Established by Jim and Karen (Van Nice ’72) Spurgat in memory of “Doc John,” professor emeritus and honorary alumnus, and his wife, Marion, for their love of music and years of providing assistance, guidance, advice and encouragement to students

Warner-Capra Scholarship
  • Awarded to full-time students majoring in English or communication who hold a 3.3 GPA or better

Eugene and Marjorie White Scholarship
  • Awarded to juniors or seniors who have an outstanding record in the bilingual/multicultural program

Kyla Wisne Memorial Choir Scholarship
  • Awarded to pre-vet majors who are also members of the University choir
  • Six to seven scholarships awarded annually*
  • Established The University of Findlay, students, friends, University faculty members and the Wisne family in memory of Ms. Wisne, who died in an automobile accident in 1994
