The Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation is a license issued by the Institute of Management Accountants that authorizes the holder to practice as a certified management accountant. In addition our CMA program has received IMA’s Higher Education Endorsement.
 

Licensing provides an objective measure of a student’s knowledge and competence in the field of management accounting for those who meet the minimum requirements specified by the Institute of Management Accountants. The CMA exam aligns current management responsibilities with the knowledge, skills and abilities that an accountant or finance professional would be expected to know.  The certification establishes and maintains a standard of professional competence within the profession, with the ultimate aim of protecting the public.  

Students who wish to qualify to take the examination will need to have completed or near completion of 120 semester hours of college level education to sit for the exam.  The specific requirements include a bachelor’s degree, in any major area, from an accredited college or university and International degrees can be accepted.  The CMA examination is a two-part testing format that requires skills and knowledge involved with planning, analysis, control and decision support.  Semester hours in accounting, economics and finance in business-oriented courses with coverage in each of the following subject areas is suggested:   

  • Planning, Budgeting, and Forecasting
  • Performance Management
  • Cost Management
  • Internal Controls
  • Professional Ethics – for CMA’s
  • Financial Statement Analysis
  • Corporate Finance
  • Decision Analysis and Risk Management
  • Investment Decisions
  • Professional Ethics - Corporate
