I’m convinced that all students will have a richer educational experience if they incorporate service and other forms of civic engagement into their academic program.
Professional communicators in particular should not operate in a vacuum.
Volunteer to tutor children, stock shelves at a local food bank, participate in local recycling programs—do something that will build your life experience, complement your academic skills, and contribute to the vitality of your community.
Profile
Dr. Diana Montague's specialties are journalism and popular culture. She advised the student newspaper, The Pulse, for her first 16 years at UF, and was the director of the University’s First-Year Experience from 2000-2007. She is currently the Faculty Liaison for Service Learning and works closely with the The University of Findlay's Campus Compact Center for Service and Learning.
Dr. Montague is an active advisory board member for the Findlay Salvation Army Corps. and for The University of Findlay's Curtain Raisers Society for the Performing Arts.
Before coming to Findlay, Dr. Montague worked as an assistant news editor and columnist at the Winona Daily News in Winona, Minn. Career honors include a first-place award for front-page design from the Minnesota Associated Press, and the top two teaching awards at UF: the Founders’ Academic Excellence Award for Faculty (1999) and the David L. Allen Award for Teaching Excellence (2003).
