Homecoming Week 2006
Tuesday, October 17, 2006
“Let Your Oiler Pride Flow” was the theme for this year’s Oiler

Homecoming
week started with the Meet the Court Dinner Oct. 3, followed by an
education symposium featuring keynote speaker Sue Nelle DeHart, Ph.D.,
Oct. 4, and College of Business lecture series speakers William Landes
’75, Ph.D., and Joseph Gaffney ’80 Oct. 5.
Homecoming weekend, Oct. 6-7, was full of activity for all ages:
 |
L to R: UF president Dr. DeBow Freed, Dr. Shiv K. Gupta, Joseph Gaffney ’80, Dr. William Landes ’75 and Michele Landes.
| Distinguished Alumni, Hall of Fame and Shiv K. Gupta Recognition Dinner:
All Distinguished Alumni and members of the Athletic Hall of Fame were
invited to this special dinner to recognize this year’s award
recipients. In addition, UF alumni William Landes ’75, Ph.D., and
Joseph Gaffney ’80 returned to The University of Findlay to present the
Shiv K. Gupta Business Scholarship Endowment Fund. The scholarship was
established in honor of Gupta, a longtime marketing and economics
professor, for his dedication to teaching students at The University of
Findlay.
Also announced was a planned $50,000 gift from Professor Gupta’s family, which will establish an endowed chair in his honor.
Oiler 5K and Little Oiler Fun Run:
Members of the community as well as UF faculty, staff and students were
invited to participate in this event to benefit the Findlay City
Mission, which received $1,300 from the race. Winners overall were Mark
Sanderson of Van Wert, Ohio, and UF alumna Katie Hunt of Findlay.

benefit the City Mission and celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.
But this wasn’t the first time the couple has marked a milestone in
their relationship with a 5K race. In October of 1986, the couple ran
in Findlay’s Homecoming “Puttin’ on the Ritz” 5K race, won both the
male and female divisions and married that evening.

The
Oiler Marching Brass led the golf cart parade down the sidewalk of Main
Street and into the front entrance of Old Main. Student-decorated golf
carts came rolling through, along with golf carts sponsored by the
Alumni Association, Homecoming committee and Student Activities. The
homecoming court, as well as a representative from both the class of
1936 and 2006, were among the many escorting the golf carts to the

| For those with a sweet tooth,
the Create-a-Cookie Recipe contest hit the spot. Students entered the
competition in either the individual or group competition. Using
favorite recipes, borrowed or passed down from generation to
generation, students handed out samples of their cookies. Tasters voted
on their favorites, choosing Kayce Hutchison, junior equestrian studies
major, as the winner of the individual competition and Sigma Kappa as
the winner of the group competition.

taking place on the front lawn were class reunions, a Greek reunion and
KidsZone, where children could have their faces painted, create artwork
on canvas and have fun with Soft Play Inflatables.
Homecoming Football Game: Starting
with an alumni tailgate party at Donnell Stadium, Oiler spirit was
everywhere at the Oilers vs. Saginaw Valley State football game Oct. 7.
