The Office of Alumni and Parent Relations organized a successful Homecoming, welcoming many alumni, students, faculty and staff to campus. The weather was beautiful, and Findlay was full of Oiler spirit.

Pre-Weekend ActivitiesHomecoming was celebrated all week on campus, beginning with a campus department decorating contest. The winner was the student services office in Old Main. The international admissions office received the award for most original. Students for Alumni Relations (STAR) chose the winning decorations.

A faculty and staff alumni luncheon was held Oct. 10. More than 100 UF alumni work full time at the University, making up approximately 20 percent of the entire full-time faculty and staff.

Homecoming speakers and presenters included Jeanne Stuckey, Ph.D., ’86 and Betty Siegel, Ed.D. Stuckey delivered a keynote address titled “Physics to Pharmaceuticals,” and Siegel led an education symposium based on her book “Becoming an Invitational Leader: A New Approach to Professional and Personal Success.”

Charnes ’66 was the keynote speaker in the College of Business Lecture Series, “The need for Values-Driven Executives in the Global Marketplace.” Later that evening, during the alumni recognition dinner, he and his wife, Mary Ann, announced a $200,000 gift to the University that will allow students to experience living on campus.

Back to topSaturday’s ActivitiesMore than 200 participants in the 5K and Little Oiler Fun Run started off Saturday’s activities by raising $2,800 for Open Arms Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services and $900 for the A-T Cure Tour. Jason Pitney took first place overall with a time of 17:56.

On the front lawn of Old Main, many activities took place. The golf cart parade featured golf carts decorated by students, UF cheerleaders, Marching Oiler Brass, past FC/UF Homecoming queens and the 2007 Homecoming court.

Other activities on the front lawn included a mini-concert on the lawn with more than 100 singers – both current students and choir alumni; the Charles T. Fox Society Reception and tree planting; class reunions; KidsZone; and the Create-a-Cookie recipe contest. The Newman Club won first place in the group division with their seven-layer bars, and Ashley Duchaine won first place in the individual division with her cranberry-orange cookies.

The 2007 Homecoming court was introduced during halftime of the UF vs. Mercyhurst football game. Laura Tietje and J. Desmond Perry were crowned queen and king. UF won the game 38-22.
