The
women’s service organization Town and Campus, which was formed to create a
closer understanding and relationship between the community and The University
of Findlay, celebrated its 50th anniversary at a brunch April 6 at the Village Café
on campus.
Along
with sponsoring numerous service projects, Town and Campus has provided more
than $110,000 in scholarship aid since its inception, and will award another
six $1,000 scholarships for 2010-11. The recipients are Kayla Chapman of
Bloomdale, Jessica Kemper of Ottoville, Raquel Morales of Toledo, Courtney
Niemeyer of Lima, Courtney Wells of Delphos and Joshua Ziegler of Findlay.
Maggie
Morehart of Ada, the first recipient of a newly endowed scholarship, was
honored during the brunch along with the other six scholarship recipients.
The
organization recently endowed a scholarship as part of the 125th Endowed Funds
Drive and in honor of its 50th anniversary.
Established
in 1960, Town & Campus began with tea parties, style shows and other events
to support women, promote a welcoming campus atmosphere, and help international
students enrolled at the school to feel at home in the community.
Members
continue to entertain international students in their homes and participate in
the Conversation Partners program, which helps international students practice
their English language skills.
The organization has purchased equipment and
recreational materials for residence halls, student lounges and gathering
areas.
We
offer our sincere appreciation to the members of Town & Campus for a half
century of service that has improved campus life and provided financial
assistance to so many deserving students, said DeBow Freed, Ph.D.,
president of the University, who was honored during the brunch.
“May
the organization, and The University of Findlay, continue to grow and prosper
together!”
