Western Equestrian Team Wins National Competition

The University’s western equestrian team earned its second Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) national championship in two years on Sunday, May 9, in Lexington, Ky. This marks the team’s fifth national championship win since 2001.

The team earned 31 points, 10 points better than runner-up Ohio State University.

Katie Morehead was third overall in the High Point Rider competition.

Heather Kiesewetter was first in the Intermediate Western Horsemanship team competition and first in the Beginner Western Horsemanship individual event.

In the individual competition, Ashley Wolf was first in Intermediate Western Horsemanship, Madison Hallas took first in Novice Western Horsemanship and Ashley Drown was first in Advanced Western Horsemanship.

In the team competition, Kiesewetter took first in Intermediate Western Horsemanship, Spencer Zimmerman took top honors in Novice Western Horsemanship and Andrew Wolf placed first in Open Reining.

The UF English equestrian team finished tied for second with Centenary on Saturday. The Oilers scored 20 points on the final day of competition in Lexington.

Skidmore College won the English title with 28 points.

The University welcomed the western equestrian team back to campus on Monday, May 10, in front of Croy Gymnasium.
