University Launches 125th Endowed Funds Drive

The University of Findlay has publicly announced a 125th Endowed Funds Drive that began during UF’s 125th anniversary year in 2007, and named the members of the national steering committee.

The University’s “125th Endowed Fund Drive” — an initiative to create 125 new endowed funds in support of student scholarships, faculty development and program support — was publicly launched Feb. 7, 2008, at the University.

To date, 44 new endowed funds have been created with a value in excess of $2.5 million.

Dr. C. Richard Beckett, board chairman, offered a brief history of the University and its continued contributions to the community. He noted that “the leadership Dr. Freed has provided is second to none.” Click here to read Beckett’s complete address.

Also during the event, a national steering committee was introduced, with a volunteer leader to help guide the drive for each college and emphasis area.

Members of the committee include:
• A.R. ’66 and Mary Ann Charnes, hometown, national co-chairs
• Dr. Robert Frampton, Findlay, College of Health Professions
• Barbara Meyers ’63, Findlay, College of Education
• Larry McDougle ’63, Napoleon, College of Sciences
• Tony Pitts ’85, Columbus, Ohio, Athletics
• Dallas Sterling, Findlay, School of Pharmacy
• Jim ’63 and Karis Woodward, Findlay, College of Liberal Arts
• Denny Zahler ’70, Ft. Mitchell, Ky., College of Business

A.R. Charnes spoke on behalf of himself and his wife, who was unable to attend. “As everyone knows, Mary Ann and I have strong feelings for The University of Findlay. We met here, Mary Ann attended classes through the years and worked at the University, and one of our daughters is a successful graduate … There is no doubt The University of Findlay is intricately woven into the fabric of our lives.”

Larry Miles talks about UF and its contributions to the arts in the community.

Following Charnes’ address, Larry Miles, who was the chairman of the Mazza building campaign in 2007, spoke to the audience. “The University shares and support the arts with our community,” he said, noting the Mazza Museum, Concert and Lecture Series, art shows and many more items of interest to both the University and the community.

The evening concluded with an impressive performance by the UF Symphonic Band, conducted by Jack Taylor, UF director of bands.
