Findlay, Ohio, Jan. 14, 2000 -- The University of Findlay has begun offering a new major in international studies, a program which prepares students to better understand, live and work in a globalizing economy.
UF students who graduate with this degree will have the competitive training needed for admittance into professional or graduate schools or for immediate careers in the international arena. This interdisciplinary program consists of a core curriculum plus coursework in one of three emphasis areas.
The Asian studies emphasis area focuses on language, culture, history and political and economic studies of mostly China and Japan. The intercultural communications emphasis area is for students with an interest in public relations involving foreign countries. Cross cultural relations, language proficiency, international issues and diversity and sensitivity training are the basis for this emphasis area. The final area, international relations, is a history and political science-based area of study.
Language training is an essential part of the international studies program. Students receive training in one or more of several foreign languages including Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish.
Internship and study abroad opportunities are encouraged.
