Findlay, Ohio, Jan. 24, 2000 – The University of Findlay has named John Fahl, John Haywood, Eric Kurjan and L. Don Manley II, all of Findlay, to serve three-year terms on its Board of Trustees.
John Fahl is president of tire operations at Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, a position he has held since 1994. Prior to that, he was vice president of purchasing from 1978-94 and corporate director of purchasing from 1966-78.
Professionally, Fahl is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Rubber Manufacturers Association and the Akron, Chicago & Ft. Wayne Rubber Groups.
He is a director with Cooper Tire & Rubber Company as well as serving as a director with Rurban Financial Corporation, Peoples Banking Company, United Way of Hancock County and Black Swamp Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is serving as the 1999-2000 United Way General Campaign Chairman and is a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church.
Fahl attended Dennison University and has completed the Bowling Green State University and the Harvard University Advanced Management Programs.
He and his wife, Janet, have three children, Terry, Nancy and Jeffrey.
John Haywood has been division vice president for Whirlpool Corporation since 1998. Prior to being named division vice president, Haywood was national director of parts operation in LaPorte, Ind., from 1994-98. He has held numerous positions in distribution, human resouces and manufacturing operations since 1987. From 1978-87, he worked at Hickory Farms in Maumee.
In addition to his professional life, Haywood is a member of the board of directors of the local Community Development Foundation and of the Findlay • Hancock County Chamber of Commerce. He is also affiliated with the YMCA.
Haywood earned a bachelor’s degree in 1978 and master of business administration degree in 1987 from Bowling Green State University. He is a member of First Lutheran Church.
He and his wife, Patti, have two children, Eric and Griffin.
Eric Kurjan is senior vice president of services at Solomon Software, Inc, a position he has held since 1998. From 1996-98, he was vice president and general manager of support and education. He served as vice president of sales and marketing from 1992-96 and as vice president of sales from 1990-92.
A member of the Association of Support Professionals and the Association for Services Management International, Kurjan is on The Ohio Bank advisory board, is on the board of the United Way of Hancock County and was campaign chair of the Hancock Recreation Center tax levy campaign. In addition, Kurjan is a member of the Findlay Rotary and is a Hancock Leadership graduate.
In 1998, Kurjan was honored as Support Professional of the Year by the Association of Support Professionals.
Kurjan earned his bachelor’s degree from Miami University in 1982. He is a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church.
He and his wife, Lisa, are the parents of two children, Madeline and Anna.
Since 1985, L. Don Manley II has been owner/president and licensed nursing home administrator of The Heritage. He was a vice president and owner of The Heritage from 1978-85. His previous employment includes a stint with Manley’s Manor Nursing Home from 1971-74. From 1974-78, Manley was vice president and owner/administrator of Indian Trail Nursing Home. Serving as president of Findlay TV Corporation from 1991-96, Manley was owner and vice president of Independence Care Community from 1991-98. He is an American College Health Care Administrator and a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator.
Manley is secretary of the Ohio Masonic Home Board of Trustees and is a member of the board of the United Way of Hancock County. From 1988-98, he served on the Mid Am Bank Advisory Board and was on the board of the Findlay Rotary from 1994-98.
An active participant in his community, Manley has served as president of the Findlay Shrine Club, as a Pacesetter Chair for the United Way campaign, as chair of the United Way Secor Scholarship and as a cross country coach for Findlay High School. He and his wife, Karen, have co-chaired The University of Findlay’s Oiler Auction for the past two years. Manley was a 1996 Olympic Torch relay participant and is a graduate of Hancock Leadership.
In 1994, Manley was inducted into the Findlay • Hancock County Small Business Hall of Fame. In 1999, he was the recipient of the Small Business of the Year Award from the Findlay • Hancock County Chamber of Commerce.
He attended Findlay College.
He and his wife, Karen, have two children, Joy and Elizabeth.
