Student Art Awards Announced

Findlay, Ohio, April 11, 2000 – The University of Findlay has announced the winners of the Juried Student Art Exhibition, which will run through April 28 in the Dudley and Mary Marks Lea Gallery, Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion.
Best of Show was awarded to Christine Christman of Leipsic for her painting “Messages.”
First place in painting and drawing went to Sachiko Kawamura of Findlay for “Still Life” and “Catch The Wind.” Kelly Fox of Findlay earned first place in printmaking for “Birch Trees,” and Takahiro Mori of Findlay won first place in ceramics for “Let’s Go Radio.” First place in the sculpture category went to Charis Cecire of Redding, Conn., for “Cabin,” and first place in design went to Jenifer Trottier of Manchester, N.H., for “Falling Leaf.” Emily Nessler of Jenera won first place in photography for “Pariah.”
The purpose of the exhibition is to display the activities of the art area and to give UF students an opportunity to have their work objectively judged in a competition. Each student could submit up to three entries in each of seven categories. The show was judged by UF art faculty members, and the awards judge was Gregg Luginbuhl, professor of art at Bluffton College.
The exhibit includes 127 works. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
