New Board Members, Officers Named

Findlay, Ohio, May 15, 2000 – The University of Findlay Board of Trustees named James F. Burwell of Findlay and Edward L. Rosenberry of Carlisle, Pa., to serve three-year terms as trustees during their board meeting on May 12 and 13.

Burwell has been president, chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors of The Ohio Bank since 1999. Prior to that, he was chief operating officer from 1998-99.

From 1990-98, Burwell served as president and chief executive officer of First National Bank of Northwest Ohio. He has worked in the banking industry since 1973.

A graduate of the National School of Bank Investments and the National Commercial Lending School, Burwell earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Miami University in 1973.

He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization, Junior Achievement Board of Directors and the First Presbyterian Church in Bryan. Burwell is also involved with Findlay Rotary Club, serves as treasurer of the Community Development Foundation and on the task force for the Downtown Findlay Action Plan. He was chairman of the Friends of Scouting fundraising campaign.

Burwell is a past trustee of Defiance College and was previously involved with the Bryan Area Foundation, Bryan Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Bryan Rotary Foundation, the Williams County Economic Development Corporation, Orchard Hills Country Club and the Medical College of Ohio Foundation.

He and his wife, Bev, have three children.

Rosenberry is a minister with the East Pennsylvania Conference of the Churches of God, General Conference, a position he has held since 1994. Prior to that, he was pastor of the Plainfield First Church of God from 1979-94 and pastor of the Maytown Church of God from 1973-79. He served as a lay minister from 1972-73.

A 1973 graduate of Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree in history, Rosenberry went on to earn his master of divinity degree from Evangelical School of Theology.

He is a member of the Cumberland County Historical Society, the Pennsylvania German Society and the Plainfield First Church of God. He also serves as a trustee for Winebrenner Theological Seminary.

He and his wife, Linda, have five children.

In addition, Adam Hechko, a junior at The University of Findlay, was named to a one-year term as a student member of the Board of Trustees.

A pre-veterinary medicine/biology major with a minor in chemistry, Hechko has participated in a number of community service activities. During 2000, he is involved as an orientation leader, an Emerging Leaders facilitator, new member educator for the Theta Chi fraternity and a member of the Order of Omega. He has served on the Binge Drinking Prevention Committee, was vice president of Campus Program Board and president of Interfraternal Council. He was named Campus Program Board member of the year for 1998-99.

In addition to his studies and his activities on campus, Hechko works as a veterinary technician for Puritas Animal Hospital in Cleveland. He was store manager for Petland in North Olmsted and served as a lab assistant for organic chemistry at UF during the fall of 1999.

At the same meeting, the following trustees were re-elected to serve the 2000-2003 term: C. Richard Beckett, Michael Cicak, Kathleen Crates, Jo Ann Davidson, Vernon Garner, Jack Harrington, Benjamin Keckler, J. Duane Philipp, Patrick Rooney and John Ross. Serving their first three-year terms, in addition to Burwell and Rosenberry, are John Fahl, John Haywood and Eric Kurjan.

Also, officers of the board were elected. They include Patrick W. Rooney, chairman; Dr. C. Richard Beckett, vice chairman; Kathleen C. Crates, secretary; and Martin Terry, treasurer. Executive committee chairman is Dr. Charles H. Spragg. Dr. Frank A. Cosiano is vice chairman.

Those assigned the status of trustee emeritus were Richard Barchent Jr., Edwin Heminger and Edgar "Ted" Maugans.
