UF Earns Mathematics Grant

indlay, Ohio, Aug. 16, 2000 – The University of Findlay has received a substantial collaborative grant through Project SUSTAIN (Schools and Universities Statewide Teaching Approaches to Inuiry).

grant also involves representatives from Bowling Green State University, BGSU – Firelands and Owens Community College. Anne Albert, co-director of mathematics and assistant professor of mathematics, is The University of Findlay’s representative.

Work on the grant this summer has included studying and refining the content, instructional materials and instructional methods used for a mathematics course for early childhood teachers. The group is also developing a discrete mathematics course for middle childhood teachers. Grant activities will continue through the next year and will include a summer institute for teachers and funding for instructional supplies.

Project SUSTAIN is a multi-year effort initiated in the fall of 1996, sponsored by the State University Education Deans and funded through OSI-Discovery. Collaboratives are funded to implement substantive, systemic and sustained mathematics and science teacher education program improvement efforts.

The grant totaled $90,000 for all four institutions involved.
