Friday, September 01, 2000

Findlay, Ohio, Sept. 1, 2000 – The University of Findlay’s physical therapy program seeks participants for a research study in exercise called “Assessment of the Training Effects of the ‘Strength Cycle’ Ergometer.”

The purpose of the study is to determine the aerobic and strength changes resulting from a nine-week training period using a new type of stationary cycle. This study has been reviewed and approved by the UF Institutional Research Review Committee.

Participants must be at least 19 years old and recreationally trained, which is defined as performing aerobic type exercise on the average of 30 minutes three times a week for one year prior to the study. Subjects must be able to train three days a week at the campus research lab for a total of nine weeks. Subjects will undergo fitness and strength tests before and after the training period.

The participants will benefit by receiving free comprehensive fitness testing results using state-of-the-art equipment. Results will include information on aerobic fitness, muscular strength, percent of body fat and lean muscle mass. Participants will undergo supervised training by using the research lab facility and will receive a free dietary analysis.

Faculty members involved in the study are Scott Van Zant, Ph.D., and Cindy Bouillon, Ph.D. For more information, contact Van Zant at 419-434-6852 or vanzant@findlay.edu.
