UF Plans International Film Festival

Findlay, Ohio, Aug. 13, 2001 —The University of Findlay’s international studies program will sponsor an International Film Festival this fall.
The festival will begin on Sept. 6 with "Eat Drink Man Woman," a 1994 movie made in Taiwan. Directed by Ang Lee, this humorous food-oriented film features a retired master chef and his three unmarried daughters as they try to come to grips with their changing relationship.
"The White Balloon," a 1995 film made in Iran, will be shown Oct. 4. Directed by Jafar Panahi, this film features a young girl’s wish for a beautiful goldfish that her family cannot afford.
Directed by Jaco Von Dormael, "Toto the Hero" will be shown Nov. 1. A 1992 film made in Belgium, the story line involves an old man who believes he was switched at birth 60 years ago and who now seeks revenge.
"Kolya," directed by Jan Sverak, will be featured on Dec. 6. This 1997 film made in the Czech Republic is the story of the comfortable life of a playboy bachelor, which is upset when a get-rich-quick scheme leaves him in charge of young boy.
All the films will be shown at 8:30 p.m. in Pfeiffer Lecture Hall, Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion. All films are subtitled in English. The festival is free and open to the public. For more information, call Jeff Richey at 419-434-5860.
