UF Announces 2001-02 Theatre Season
Wednesday, August 29, 2001

Findlay, Ohio, Aug. 29, 2001 — Scott Hayes, theatre program director, and Jerry Deall, technical director, have announced the 2001-02 theatre season for The University of Findlay.

"Romeo and Juliet" will open the season Oct. 31 to Nov. 4 in Egner Theatre. Hayes will direct this Shakespeare tragedy about true love and deadly family rivalry.

UF advanced theatre directing students will direct three fully-produced one act plays when "A Festival of One Acts, 2001" is staged Nov. 30 to Dec. 2 in Ritz Auditorium, Old Main. The plays will be classic comedy one acts written by landmark playwrights.

Following the example of eight sold-old productions by the 24-hour theatre company Horizon Theatre in Atlanta, Ga., the UF theatre program will attempt to create, rehearse, produce and perform a show in just 48 hours in something called "Triage Theatre."

Theatre faculty will give several student playwrights a theme at 8 p.m. Those playwrights have one day to each write a short play using the theme. The following day, after getting approval of content, the directors and designers have two hours to decide how they will stage the plays. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the directors will stage the play with the actors. At 8 p.m., the audience arrives to see the results. Various student groups on campus will do the performing. "Triage Theatre" will be performed Feb. 15-16 in Egner Theatre.

UF’s music and theatre programs, as well as Findlay Light Opera and Findlay Area Youtheatre, will collaborate when The University of Findlay presents the first fully-mounted revival of "REX," Richard Rodger’s 1776 Broadway musical about Henry VIII, with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and book by Sherman Yellen. The score, which will be performed by a 30-piece orchestra, has been reconstructed by Micheal F. Anders, professor of music at UF, in consultation with the Rodgers and Hammerstein organization and co-authors Harnick and Yellen. "REX" will be staged April 11-13 and April 18-20 in Egner Theatre. In addition, Anders will host a concert and lecture titled "The Evolution of REX, the Musical" on April 14.
