Findlay, Ohio, Nov. 9, 2001 — The University of Findlay will present "A Festival of One Acts – Poking Fun at Everyday Life" Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. in Ritz Auditorium, Old Main.
These five one-act plays have a shared theme. Each play begins as an "average" day, but, to quote Gilbert and Sullivan, "things are seldom what they seem."
In "Teeth," an absurd comedy by Tina Howe, the audience gets a bizarre look into a visit to a dentist’s office. This show will be directed by Matthew Dennis and will feature Jessica Hines and Chad Moser.
"The Lover," by Britain’s current master playwright Harold Painter, is about a not-so-normal husband and wife whose affairs are not what they appear to be. Caitlin Newell will direct this show, with Ikuko Ono, Kurt Aller and Coy Schlumbohm featured.
In "DMV Tyrant," a hilarious sketch by Christopher Durang, one of America’s most funny dramatists, a man explores the pits of hell, otherwise known as renewing a driver’s license at the local DMV. This show will be directed by Megan Lyon and will feature Tamara Hanson and Kurt Aller.
"Virtual Reality," written by Tony-award winner Alan Arkin, is about what happens to two want-to-be ruffians when their imaginations go out of control. Joshua Hilborn will direct this show, which features Coy Schlumbohm and Kyle Kutchenriter.
"The Last Yankees" is a serio-comic play by legendary American playwright Arthur Miller. Two men meet in a mental hospital waiting room, there to visit their respective wives. A spirited discussion ensues, revealing a sharp divide between the men and their social classes. The show will be directed by Brian Berheide and will feature Corey Woodcock.
