UF Plans International Film Festival

Findlay, Ohio, Dec. 21, 2002 —The University of Findlay’s international studies program will sponsor an International Film Festival this spring.

The festival will begin on Jan. 10 with "The Electric House" and "Metropolis." "The Electric House" is a 1922 American silent classic featuring a would-be electrical engineer and a newly electrified house that goes haywire. "Metropolis" is a 1926 film about downtrodden workers in a highly technological society who rebel against their industrial masters. This is also a silent film.

"Ikiru," a 1952 Japanese film, is about a lifelong bureaucrat who searches for the meaning in his life when he is diagnosed with terminal cancer. This film will be shown on Feb. 7.

On March 14, "La Dernier Metro," a 1980 French film, will be shown. This movie is about the wife of a Jewish theatre owner who struggles to keep their enterprise in business.

"Al-Massir" will be shown on April 4. A 1997 Egyptian firm, this movie is a combination of a love story, adventure tale, religious controversy and music, all set in 12th century Islamic Spain.

All the films will be shown at 8 p.m. in Pfeiffer Lecture Hall, Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion. All films are subtitled in English. The festival is free and open to the public. For more information, call Jeff Richey at 419-434-4711.
