Classical Guitar Ensemble To Perform at UF

Findlay, Ohio, Jan. 15, 2002 — The Classical Guitar Ensemble from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music will present a program of solos, duos, trios and quartets Thursday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. in Ritz Auditorium, Old Main, at The University of Findlay.

The eight guitarists are all classical guitar majors at the College-Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Clare Callahan. Each year, they perform two one-week tours of schools, colleges, churches, music clubs and concert series, bringing classical guitar music to new audiences. The ensemble has several programs playing on cable networks and has been featured in national meetings of music education associations, guitar festivals and throughout NPR Radio Network.

They have performed at the Contemporary Arts Center, Corbett Tower, The LaSalle Foundation, Clermont Arts Series, the Taft Museum and Cincinnati Art Museum. Most recently, the ensemble performed at the University of Dayton, Antioch College, University of Kentucky and Berea College.

The program at UF will feature music by Scarlatti, Rameau, Sor Mendelssohn, Cardoso, Bizet and Duarte, among others. It will also include an arrangement of Gounod’s "Funeral March of a Marionette," Ruiz Pippo’s "Samba" and a new guitar quartet by Illinois composer David Burdick titled "Episode."

Admission is free and open to the public.
