Two Named To UF Board of Trustees

Findlay, Ohio, Jan. 22, 2002 — The University of Findlay Board of Trustees named Clifford C. Cook and D. Richard Stephens to serve as trustees during their board meeting on Jan. 18-19.

Clifford C. Cook is senior vice president of supply, distribution and planning at Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC in Findlay, a position he has held since 2001.

Prior to his current position, Cook was vice president of supply, distribution and planning from 2000-01 and vice president of operations planning and product supply for Marathon from 1998-00. He also held the position of manager of operations and product supply for Marathon from 1994-98. Other positions held with Marathon include manager of operations, manager of crude oil supply, manager of Rocky Mountains crude acquisition in Denver, manager of foreign crude oil supply, crude oil acquisition representative in London, crude oil acquisition representative in Houston and environmental coordinator with the Texas City Refinery.

In addition to his career, Cook also has other involvements with his company. He has been director of Marathon Ashland Petroleum Supply Company LLC and director of Marathon Ashland Petroleum Canada Ltd.

Cook is also a board member of Pilot Travel Centers LLC and president of the St. Michael’s School Foundation. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, the University of Michigan President’s Club and the Hancock County United Way Gaslight Society. He is a member of St. Francis Church in Ann Arbor, Mich.

A graduate of the University of Detroit with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Cook went on to earn a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University Detroit and a master’s degree in business administration from Boston University. He has participated in the University of Michigan Executive Program. Cook was also a supply corps officer for the Navy.

Cook has received the Joint Services Commendation Medal and was named a Texas City Jaycee of the Quarter.

He and his wife, Maureen, have four children, Carolyn, Colleen, Clifford and Kevin. They live in Ann Arbor, Mich.

D. Richard Stephens is president of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company in Findlay, a position he was named to in December 2001.

His career with Cooper began in 1979 when he was manager of compound development. He went on to work as manager of product development and became director and then vice president of the technical department. He then served as vice president for the technical and commercial tire operation. Prior to his current position, Stephens was president of Cooper’s International Tire Division.

Stephens was a member of the Vennard College board of trustees and a member of the board’s finance committee from 1994-96. He has published several papers in industry journals and given numerous presentations at industry conferences.

A 1972 graduate of the University of Akron with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Stephens went on to earn his master of business administration degree from Bowling Green State University in 1990 and completed the Harvard University Advanced Management Program in 1997.

He served with the Findlay • Hancock County Chamber of Commerce in 1992 and is a 22-year member of the West Independence United Methodist Church.

Stephens and his wife, Judy, have two children, Aaron and Sarah. They live in Findlay.
