UF SummerStock Plans Auditions

Findlay, Ohio, Feb. 25, 2002 — An open audition for the 2002 SummerStock season will be held Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Egner Fine Arts Center on The University of Findlay campus. Callbacks will begin at 1:30 p.m. Auditions will consist of a short monologue and 16 bars of a song from a musical production. Total length of the audition should not be longer than 90 seconds.

SummerStock is also taking applications for directors, designers, box office personnel, carpenters, electricians, properties, interns and high school apprentices. With the exception of apprentices, the positions include housing, meals and a salary. For more information on these positions, contact Jerry Deall at 419-434-6924.

The shows for this year’s SummerStock season include Forever Plaid running July 10-14, Born Yesterday staged July 17-21 and The Will Rogers Follies performed July 24-28.

Forever Plain, written and originally directed and choreographed by Stuart Ross with musical continuity supervision and arrangements by James Ritt, is the story of four unlikely heroes whose dreams of musical glory come true when they miraculously return to earth.

These four were snuffed out in a collision with a school bus of eager teens on their way to see the Beatles debut on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964.

Born Yesterday by Garson Kanin tells the story of Harry Brock who comes to Washington, D.C., to make crooked deals with government officials. Billie, an ex-chorus girl and his companion, lacks necessary social graces. Harry hires Paul Verrall, a magazine reporter who has been investigating political skullduggery, to educate Billie.

The Will Rogers Follies, based on the book by Peter Stone, was musically composed and arranged by Cy Coleman with lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. Winner of six Tony Awards, this musical is a biography is one of America’s most beloved citizens.
