New Endowed Scholarship Established at UF

Findlay, Ohio, April 29, 2002 — The International Student Scholarship Endowment Fund has been established at The University of Findlay in honor of Gwen Kuenzli, former executive director of international affairs and professor emeritus of speech, and Fumiko Harada, Ph.D., professor of Japanese and special assistant to the president.

The scholarship has been established to recognize and assist international students who are enrolled in undergraduate study at UF. Any full-time international student who has been successfully enrolled for a minimum of two semesters and has a grade point average of 3.0 or above is eligible to apply for the award. Recipients will be selected by the International Education Council.

Gwen Kuenzli worked at UF from 1980 until her retirement in 2001. During her years at UF, she held numerous positions, such as executive director of international affairs, associate professor of communication and speech, director of international student advising and director of the Honors Program. She earned her bachelor of fine arts and master of fine arts degrees from Ohio University and received additional training at Bowling Green State University.

Fumiko Harada, Ph.D., has been part of the UF family for 13 years. She currently serves as professor of Japanese and special assistant to the president. She earned her bachelor’s degree in social science from International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1967. She went on to earn her master’s degree in 1983 and doctoral degree in 1988 in foreign language education from The Ohio State University.
