Findlay, Ohio, May 14, 2002 — The University of Findlay’s Mazza Collection has been renamed the Mazza Museum of International Art from Picture Books, effective with an unveiling of the new logo at the 20th Annual Mazza Collection Celebration May 23, 2002.
The collection began in 1982 to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of then Findlay College. Through the generosity of two alumni, August '41 and the late Aleda (Pfost '41) Mazza, The University of Findlay was able to establish the Mazza Collection. Four pieces valued at $1,700 comprised the original collection. The initial goal was to add one new piece of artwork each year. Today, the collection has grown to more than 2,000 original pieces of art from children’s books and is known internationally as the first and largest teaching gallery in the world specializing in such art.
The Mazza Collection has been renamed the Mazza Museum of International Art from Picture Books in order to reflect the truly international scope of the collection and to more adequately portray the collection and the events and activities thereof. A new logo has also been created.
