Emsweller Promoted to Vice President

Findlay, Ohio, Sept. 26, 2002 — David W. Emsweller has been promoted to vice president for student services at The University of Findlay.

In his position, Emsweller is responsible for overseeing on-campus housing, career services, financial aid, minority student services, student activities, health services, international affairs, disability services, safety and security, dining services, intramurals, academic support services, judicial affairs, counseling services and all other student service functions.

Since 1999, Emsweller has been dean of students at UF. Prior to that, he was leadership and technology coordinator as well as Residence Hall Association adviser at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich., from 1994-99. He served as a complex director at Michigan State from 1991-94 and as assistant director of university housing at Florida International University in Miami, Fla., from 1990-91.

Emsweller was employed at Adrian College in Adrian, Mich., from 1984-90. He served as director of residence life from 1987-90 and as director/coordinator of orientation from 1984-90. He also held positions as assistant director of residence life, residence hall director and international student adviser at Adrian.

A 1983 graduate of Bowling Green State University, Emsweller earned his master’s degree in college student personnel from BGSU in 1986 and completed coursework toward a doctoral degree in higher education and lifelong education from Michigan State University.

In addition to his career in college student personnel, Emsweller served as an adult education teacher for the Adrian City Schools and was a secondary English teacher and track coach at Langston School in Oberlin, Ohio, from 1983-84.

Professionally, Emsweller has been active in organizations such as the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, Great Lakes Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls, Alpha Tau Omega and Sigma Tau Delta.

Emsweller has also served his community by volunteering with the Capital Area Interfaith Respite, American Cancer Society and United Way.

He was honored in 1995 and 1996 as Michigan Ontario Residence Hall Association Advisor of the Year and in 1995-96 as Michigan State University Outstanding Student Government Organization Advisor.

A native of Canton, Ohio, Emsweller and his wife, Michelle, and their two children, Lauren and Brandon, live in Findlay.
