Wednesday, October 16, 2002
Findlay, Ohio, Oct. 16, 2002 —The Mazza Museum at The University of Findlay is seeking volunteers for a program titled “Mazza for the Wee and Wise,” an intergenerational art and literacy program.
The first training for volunteers will be held Friday, Oct. 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mazza Museum in the Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion.
The purpose of this program is to train volunteers how to use original art to encourage reading and interaction among pre-school children and senior adults. Trained volunteers will be able to facilitate literacy sessions in adult-care facilities during pre-school visits. The sessions will nurture pre-literacy skills in pre-school children and support the continued use of literacy skills in senior adults.
The program is being funded by a grant from the HancockREADS Initiative of the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation.
The training session is free. To register or for more information, call Tamera Rooney at 419-434-4689.
