Ohio Attorney General to Speak at UF

Findlay, Ohio, Oct. 1, 2002 — The Women’s Studies program at The University of Findlay will host a presentation by Ohio Attorney General Betty Montgomery on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 10:30 a.m. in Ritz Auditorium.

A former criminal prosecutor and state senator, Montgomery made history when she was sworn in as Ohio’s first female Attorney General in 1995. She is Ohio’s 45th Attorney General and was re-elected to a second four-year term in 1998.

A 1970 graduate of Bowling Green State University, Montgomery earned her law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law.

She began her legal career as a criminal clerk for the Lucas County Common Pleas Court. In 1976, she became assistant prosecuting attorney in Wood County. Later, she became Perrysburg city prosecutor, where she served until she was elected as the Wood County prosecuting attorney, becoming Ohio’s only female county prosecutor.

The people of the 2nd Ohio Senate District (Northwest Ohio) elected Montgomery to the Ohio Senate in 1988. She served as chair of the Criminal Justice Subcommittee, and vice chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission.
