Six Speakers Featured for Mazza Weekend Institute

Findlay, Ohio, Oct. 2, 2002 — Six noted artists and authors of children’s picture books will serve as keynote speakers for the 2002 Mazza Weekend Institute at The University of Findlay Nov. 15-16.
The institute will include a Friday evening dinner, keynote address and autograph session as well as Saturday’s events, with five keynote addresses, lunch and autograph sessions.
The keynote speakers are Tomie dePaola, artist and author of more than 180 books including the classics Nanna Upstairs, Nanna; Laura Kvasnosky, artist and author of many popular books like Zelda and Ivy; David Macaulay, the artist who received a 1991 Caldecott Medal for Black and White, a 1978 Caldecott Honor for Castle and a 1974 Caldecott Honor for Cathedral; Cyd Moore, artist of such books as I Love You, Stinky Face; Kris Waldherr, an artist who specializes in books about myths such as The Goddess; David Wiesner, winner of the 2002 Caldecott Medal for The Three Pigs, 1992 Caldecott Medal for Tuesday and 2000 Caldecott Honor for Sector 7.
Space is limited to 250 participants. The basic registration fee is $95, which is waived for those taking the institute for undergraduate or graduate credit. One or two hours of graduate credit is available for $335 per hour, while one or two hours of undergraduate credit is available for $399 per hour. Dinner on Friday evening is available for an additional cost of $20.
The Mazza Museum at The University of Findlay is the first and largest teaching gallery in the world specializing in the art from children’s picture books.
