Findlay, Ohio, Jan. 8, 2003 — A human resource development (HRD) strand has been added to the master of arts in education degree at The University of Findlay.
The HRD strand prepares students for leadership positions in training and development, organizational development, career development, employee assistance programs and other professions. Careers in this field are available in business, nonprofit, education and government settings. The HRD strand has been added to the University’s master of arts in education degree, which has existed since 1992.
Requiring students to develop an understanding of training and development, organizational development and adult education, the HRD strand includes 33 semester hours of graduate level classes in education and related fields. Fifteen hours are made up of the master of arts in education core courses, while nine hours of human resource development courses are required. Nine semester hours in the training and development emphasis or operational training emphasis are also required. The training and development emphasis is linked to a broad range of human resource activities in modern business, while the operational compliance training emphasis includes courses that promote behavior-based changes in industrial and manufacturing operations.
Some of the career fields available to human resource development practitioners include human resource development/training, continuing professional education, workforce development, private consulting/training, adult curriculum design specialist, training coordinator, train-the-trainer and other adult education, continuing education or lifelong learning programs.
