Findlay, Ohio, Feb. 11, 2003 —The University of Findlay has named Marie Louden-Hanes, Ph.D., to the newly created position of Dean of University College.
In her new position, Louden-Hanes will develop and coordinate the “freshman experience” year, coordinate and facilitate the graduate programs and coordinate adjunct faculty and related activities. In addition, she will continue to direct the master of arts in liberal studies program and teach in the College of Liberal Arts.
Louden-Hanes, Ph.D., professor of art at UF since 1986, earned her doctorate degree from Bowling Green State University in 1994, her master of arts degree in art history from BGSU in 1984 and her bachelor of fine arts degree in art education from BGSU in 1981. She also has an associate’s degree in fine arts from Sullins College in Bristol, Va.
Louden-Hanes has taught various courses in art history and art appreciation as well as courses in women’s studies. She has also taught several graduate seminar courses at UF and directs UF’s newest master’s degree – the master of arts in liberal studies.
In 1997, Louden-Hanes was a visiting scholar at Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts, Kake Educational Institution, in Okayama, Japan. She has traveled extensively, including visits to Greece, Turkey, Crete, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Spain and Portugal, and has presented numerous lectures at professional conferences in the United States and Canada. She is a member of the Toledo Museum of Art.
Louden-Hanes is chair of numerous UF committees, include the Teaching Learning and Technology Center roundtable, committee on retention, master of arts in liberal studies advisory board, general education curriculum revision committee and the graduate council curriculum review committee . She is a member of the honors program board, the international affairs executive board and the faculty affairs committee. She served as chair of the Faculty Senate in 2001-02.
In 2001, Louden-Hanes was honored by the Tau Omega Pi Scholastic Honorary Fraternity at The University of Findlay. She was awarded the Founders’ Academic Excellence Award for Faculty at UF in 2000.
She is a member of the board of directors of the Black Heritage Library in Findlay.
