Findlay, Ohio, March 12, 2003 — The University of Findlay will host a dinner with Kirk Herbstreit, former Ohio State University quarterback and ESPN College Game Day commentator, on Tuesday, April 1, at 7 p.m. in the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex.
Joining Herbstreit in Findlay will be Paul Keels, “The Voice of the Buckeyes,” and Brutus Buckeye, played by Findlay native Cassidy Mullins.
A stellar athlete, Herbstreit passed for nearly 2,000 yards in an option-oriented offense, leading OSU to a 8-3-1 mark, second place in the Big Ten, a Florida Citrus Bowl appearance and a number 18 final AP ranking. He served as team captain and was voted Most Valuable Player and Most Inspirational Player in his senior year.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1993, Herbstreit took a position with WBNS, a Columbus radio station. He still hosts an afternoon sports talk show on the station and co-hosts a weekend sports wrap-up show on WBNS-TV, a CBS affiliate in Columbus.
In 1995, Herbstreit was hired by ESPN to provide sideline reporting and color analysis for 15 college football games. He was asked in 1996 to join Lee Corso and Chris Fowler as a commentator on ESPN’s College Game Day. In 1997, Herbstreit was honored with a Sports Emmy nomination as television’s top studio analyst. He also has been a contributor to ESPN The Magazine and The Sporting News.
He lives in Columbus with his wife, Allison, and their twin sons.
Since 1998, Keels has been the play-by-play announcer for Ohio State football and basketball radio network. For the past three years, he has been play-by-play announcer for Cincinnati Bengals pre-season telecasts and previously handled radio play-by-play for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats, Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Pistons.
Having done freelance play-by-play assignments for the NFL and college football for Mutual/Westwood One Radio Network and Public Interest Affiliates Radio Network, Keels has also served as a television announcer for the Michigan Panthers of the United States Football League and has worked as a news anchor and reporter for radio stations in Cincinnati and Dayton.
A graduate of Xavier University, Keels is working on a book tentatively titled Tales from the Buckeye Sideline, highlighting OSU’s 2002 championship football season. He has been honored twice by the Associated Press with Ohio Sportscasting Awards.
Tickets for the dinner are $75 per individual and $35 for children age 14 and younger. A table of eight can be purchased for $500. For tickets, call the Office of Athletics at 419-434-4663. The deadline for purchasing tickets is March 26.
