Findlay, Ohio, March 14, 2003 — Nondace Campbell, director of the Reading Center, will speak on “Ohio Authors Speak to Young Adults,” and Teresa LaRocco, assistant professor of English, will speak on “Viewpoints from Ohio: Authors from the Buckeye State” on Monday, March 24, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union, Multi-Purpose Room.
This is the third in a series of seven events sponsored by The University of Findlay to celebrate Ohio’s bicentennial.
LaRocco will speak about the variety of authors from Ohio, giving special attention to writers in the surrounding area. Ohio has been blessed with several notable authors, including Pulitzer Prize winner Toni Morrison.
She has taught at UF for more than 18 years. She earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from The Ohio State University.
Campbell’s presentation will include a brief look at the works of a number of Ohio-born writers of young adult books. She will discuss the works of Virginia Hamilton, Susan Creech, Jacqueline Woodson, Michael Rosen, Natalie Babbitt, Sharon Draper, Robin McKinley, Elizabeth Adler, Barbara Robinson and James Thurber.
A graduate of Huntington College and The University of Toledo, Campbell has been with The University of Findlay for 30 years. Her interest in reading and literature has led her over the years to participate in various community activities, including serving as chairperson for the American Association of University Women’s Reader’s Theatre and participating as a tutor for READ for Life, a local organization assisting adults with literacy.
