Symphonic Band and Wind Ensembles to Salute Ohio Composers

Findlay, Ohio, March 25, 2003 — The University of Findlay Symphonic Band and Wind Ensembles will perform “A Salute to the Composers of Ohio” on Sunday, April 6, at 3 p.m. in Central Auditorium in Findlay.

The program will include works by Ohio composers Karl King, Henry Fillmore, Anne McGinty, Loris Chobanian, James Swearingen, David Shaffer, Tell Taylor, and Daniel Emmett. The ensembles will also perform a tribute in memory of the late “Doc” John Van Nice, former professor of music at UF, with a presentation of his Alma Mater Hymn. The first recipient of the John and Marion Van Nice Endowed Scholarship will be announced during the program.

Also featured during the concert will be UF student Joseph Bender, a trombone soloist from Mount Joy, Pa., performing the Carnival of Venice Variations.

The event will be conducted by Jack Taylor, director of bands.

This is the sixth in a series of seven events sponsored by The University of Findlay to celebrate Ohio’s bicentennial. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens and are available by calling 419-434-4531.
