Findlay, Ohio, March 27, 2003 — Jerry Mallett, director of the Mazza Museum at UF, will present “Bicentennial 1803-2003, Ohio: A Wealth of Children’s Book Artists” on Monday, April 7, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion.
This is the last in a series of seven events sponsored by The University of Findlay to celebrate Ohio’s bicentennial.
Mallett’s tour will highlight historical and contemporary artists as he talks about the influence Ohio has had in the area of children’s picture books.
Mallett has been a professor of education since joining the Findlay College faculty in 1968. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Toledo. He has previous experience as both a teacher and principal in the Washington Local Schools.
He has received numerous awards, including “Ohio Independent Colleges and Universities Award for Outstanding Teacher of 1987,” being elected as a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in London, England in 1993 and “The Distinguished Achievement Award” by The University of Toledo in 2001. He has published about 54 books, approximately half of which are professional books for teachers and librarians, while the rest are children’s books, including “Good Old Ernie.”
