Findlay, Ohio, March 31, 2003 — The University of Findlay will host the 35th annual International Night on Friday, April 4, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. in the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex.
This year’s event will host representatives from about 20 countries to share their food, history and culture. An International Café will allow visitors to sample cuisine from around the world, and display booths will give visitors the opportunity to learn more about the various countries represented on the UF campus.
Events will begin at 7 p.m. with an opening ceremony, including a parade of flags and an international fashion show. Ongoing activities will include Tae Kwon Do (Korea), unicycle performance (Japan) and several traditional dances and songs performed by students for various countries.
A program for area elementary and middle school students will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students will receive passports and will get them stamped as they visit each booth.
The International Club, the campus organization that plans and sponsors International Night, received an ECLIPSe (Emerging Community Leaders Investing in Philanthropic Service) grant to fund the passports and a reflection activity. ECLIPSe is the youth grant-making council of the Findlay-Hancock County CHESP (Community, Higher Education, School Partnership) Partnership. CHESP is a collaboration among the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation, the Findlay City Schools, the Hancock County Schools, OSU Extension, The University of Findlay’s Campus Compact and the Volunteer Center at the United Way of Hancock County.
International Night is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be collected, with proceeds benefiting the International Student Scholarship Fund.
