Monday, July 14, 2003
Findlay, Ohio, July 14, 2003—Kenneth E. Zirkle has submitted his resignation as president of The University of Findlay, effective immediately. In May, he was granted a one-year sabbatical leave by the Board of Trustees, which was given in view of his 20 years of service. At the time, Zirkle said that he was exploring other opportunities.
In commenting that he will not be returning to The University of Findlay, Zirkle said, “Twenty years is a long time to stay in one place. Although it has been wonderful to be a part of all that has been accomplished at The University of Findlay, I’m really looking forward to undertaking some new challenges. My wife and I have appreciated our stay in Findlay, which has been an ideal community in which to raise our family.”
Dr. Beckett commended President Zirkle for his years of dedication and his accomplishments. “President Zirkle has left a legacy unmatched by any other president of this institution regarding growth of the enrollment, physical campus, athletics and academic programs. We wish him well in his future endeavors,” Dr. Beckett said.
DeBow Freed was appointed as president of The University of Findlay by the UF Board of Trustees, effective June 1.
