Findlay, Ohio, June 29, 2003 — UF-TV, The University of Findlay’s television station seen on local cable channel 20, has announced several new programs and has released its viewing schedule for the week of Aug. 4.
New shows include a series titled “Back in the Day,” which focuses on discovering interesting people, places and events that connect individuals to their pasts. Partially funded by the Ohio Bicentennial Commission in celebration of Ohio’s bicentennial in 2003 and the Hancock County Community Foundation, this series focuses on the development and history of Hancock County.
“Back in the Day: Underground Railroad” will air Aug. 5 at 10:30 a.m., Aug. 4 at 9 p.m. and Aug. 4-10 at 5 p.m. “Back in the Day: Jenerra Shipwreck Survivors” will be shown Aug. 7 at 10:30 a.m., Aug. 9 and 10 at 10:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. and Aug. 6 and 8 at 9 p.m.
Another new program is a series called “From Here: A Century of Voices from Ohio,” which will air at 3 p.m. Aug. 4-10. This series is organized by the Wallpaper Project, an arts and humanities effort that has gathered interviews from 350 longtime and lifelong resides of Auglaize County, using the collected information in a variety of public
programming. The Wallpaper Project also presents an annual oral history dramatic production, the only ongoing oral history performance program in Ohio.
“Backstreet,” written by Peggy McGinty Brannigan of Findlay and directed by Vickie McClurkin of Findlay, is another new show to UF-TV. The story is set in Findlay during the Civil War when a Confederate soldier escapes from Johnson’s Island prison and collapses in the Anders’ yard, where he is discovered and hidden by Miss Anders, who nurses him back to health. The two fall in love, but their affection for each other is separated by the deep division within the country. The story becomes more complex as the entire Anders family discovers the secret. “Backstreet” will be aired Aug. 4-10 at 10 p.m., Aug. 4, 6 and 8 at 7 p.m. and Aug. 9 and 10 at 4 p.m.
Ongoing shows on UF-TV include Findlay Fitness, hosted by Jim Steffen, airing Aug. 4-8 at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Aug. 4-10 at 8 a.m. and “In the Moment: Yoga,” hosted by Barbara Glock, airing Aug. 4-8 at 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Aug. 4-10 at 8:30 a.m. and Aug. 9 and 10 at 6 p.m.
“Mazza Before Bedtime,” hosted by Mazza Museum Director Jerry Mallett, provides children with a glimpse of what The University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum has to offer. This show will air Aug. 5 and 7 at 7 p.m. and Aug. 9 and 10 at 8 p.m. “Community Connection” is a program that provides local residents with information about community events. This show will air Aug. 7, 9 and 10 at 10 a.m., Aug. 4-8 at 1 p.m., Aug. 9 and 10 at 2 p.m. and Aug. 5 and 7 at 9 p.m.
UF-TV’s news magazine show, “Findlay Edition,” is hosted by Shaylyn Tewers, a freshman broadcast journalism major. The show will run Aug 4-6 and Aug. 8 at 10 a.m., Aug. 4-10 at 11 a.m. and noon, Aug. 4-8 at 4 p.m., Aug. 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. and Aug. 4-8 at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.
UF-TV, cable channel 20, is a learning laboratory for UF students, helping prepare them for the broadcast profession while providing an assortment of programming for the greater community.
