UF Announces Senior Forum Schedule

Findlay, Ohio, Sept. 19, 2003 - The University of Findlay will hold its fall Senior Forum on Wednesdays, Sept. 24 to Oct. 29.

Each day is a socially and intellectually stimulating learning experience for people age 50 and older. It offers non-credit classes with no tests or required reading.

Each day consists of sessions in the morning and afternoon as well as lunch lecture. Sessions are independent of each other. This year’s theme is Ohio Bicentennial.

Morning sessions from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. include “Presidents of Courage and Character” by James Taylor on Sept. 24; “Ohio: a Little History, a Little Trivia, a Little Fun!” by Miriam Vance on Oct. 1; “Tecumseh” by Ken Hammontree on Oct. 8; “Indians of Ohio” by John Miles by Oct. 15; “Fort Meigs and the Ohio Frontier” by Larry Nelson on Oct. 22; and “Squire Carlin’s Village” by Denny Joliff on Oct. 29.

Lunch sessions from noon to 1 p.m. include “Longaberger Baskets: Weaving a Legend” by Mary Kaufmann on Sept. 24; “Hancock County: Moving Forward” by Denae Griggs on Oct. 1; “Sauder: How the Business Grew” by Steve Webster on Oct. 8; “Findlay and Greentown Glass” by James Houdeshell on Oct. 15; “Oil and Gas Boom” by Paulette Weiser and Linda Paul on Oct. 22; and “Ohio Economic Development” by Judy Cowan on Oct. 29.

Afternoon sessions from 1:15 to 2:30 p.m. include “A Musical Time Trip” by Mel Harsh on Sept. 24; “Ohio: Children’s Picture Books” by Jerry Mallett and Ben Sapp on Oct. 1; “Ohio’s Art Museums” by Nadine Smith on Oct. 8; “Ohio’s Underground RR” by Auburn Sheaffer on Oct. 15; “Ohio Tunes” by Alsbrooks Smith on Oct. 22; and “Bicentennial Barns” by Bill Miller on Oct. 29.

Cost for the series is $60 for singles and $105 for couples. The fee for any single class or lunch lecture is $3.50 for singles and $6 for couples. A buffet lunch is available for an additional $5 per day, payable at registration. A coffee/tea bar is available all day at no charge to participants.
