Findlay, Ohio, Oct. 21, 2003 —Veteran stage and screen actor Hal Holbrook will visit The University of Findlay campus Nov. 6 and 7 as the first recipient of the Don and Barb Hennigs Chair for Theatre Guest Artists.
During his visit, Holbrook will speak to classes, attend a luncheon with UF theatre students and faculty and be the guest of honor at a reception for students, faculty and staff. In addition, the public is invited to attend a public interview and question and answer session with Holbrook on Friday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. in the John and Hester Powell Grimm Theatre, Egner Center for the Performing Arts. There are 100 seats available to the public, and seats can be reserved by calling Betty Bozo at 419-434-4531 on a first-come, first-served basis.
Holbrook’s career has spanned more than four decades. He began his career on stage in the 1950s and appeared on the CBS soap opera The Brighter Day. Holbrook’s career flourished with his portrayal of Mark Twain in the one-man stage show Mark Twain Tonight. That show led to some 2,000 appearances as Twain and a top-selling record.
Moving to the big screen, Holbrook starred in The Group, Wild in the Streets, Magnum Force, The Star Chamber, Wall Street and The Firm. He was also nominated for an Oscar in 1976 for his portrayal of “Deep Throat” in All the President’s Men. Holbrook has won several Emmy’s for his work on television, most recently on Designing Women and Evening Shade.
The Don and Barb Hennigs Chair for Theatre Guest Artists was started earlier this year to bring to campus national or international actors to share their expertise with UF theatre students. The chair will allow for one guest artist per year for at least a weekend.
