Air National Guard Band to Perform at UF
Monday, October 06, 2003
Findlay, Ohio, Oct. 6, 2003 — The Air National Guard Band of the Great Lakes will perform Sunday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium at The University of Findlay.
Under the direction of Lt. Col. Robert Krichbaum, the 555th Air Force Band, nicknamed the “Triple Nickel” Band, will present a program of marches and patriotic music. Members of the Oiler Brass Marching Band from UF will join the band for a mass performance of the National Anthem.
The “Triple Nickel” Band was formed in Toledo in the 1920s. First known as the 148th Infantry Band, the group joined forces with several military bands in the area during World War II to form the 27th Ohio Division Band, which served in the Pacific. When the Army Air Corps was separated in 1947 to form the United States Air Force, the 555th Air Force Band was reorganized with members of the 37th Ohio Division Band as an extension of the Air National Guard of Toledo. Today, the band performs annually for more than 200,000 people through Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan and Indiana.
The concert, which is co-sponsored by UF’s Student Government Association and the Oiler Brass Marching Band, is free and open to the public. For more information, call 419-434-4531.
