“An American Musical Heritage Concert” to be Presented

Findlay, Ohio, Nov. 14, 2003 —The University of Findlay Concert-Chorale will present “An American Musical Heritage Concert” Sunday, Nov. 23, at 3 p.m. in the TLB Foundation Convocation Center, Wiinebrenner Theological Seminary, 950 N. Main St.

The concert will feature music associated with the Thanksgiving season as well as folksongs and patriotic pieces. Some of the familiar Thanksgiving compositions will be Come Ye Thankful People Come, For the Beauty of the Earth and Amazing Grace. Some of the folksongs planned for the concert include Shenandoah, Cindy, Down in the Valley and a 15-minute American folksong medley that traces the first 100 years of rural life in the United States. Also featured will be the southern spiritual, Down to the River to Prayer, which was featured on the film Oh Brother, Where Art Thou.

The 70-voice Concert-Chorale will conclude with a set of patriotic pieces that includes America, the Beautiful, a choral setting of the poem In Flanders Field, The Battle Hymn of the Republic and God Bless America.

The Concert-Chorale in under the direction of Micheal F. Anders, Ph.D., professor of music at UF.

The concert is free and open to the public.
