Equine Law Practitioner to Speak at UF

Findlay, Ohio, March 16, 2004 — Julie Fershtman, an attorney specializing in the equine industry, will speak at The University of Findlay Thursday, March 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union.

She will discuss legal issues surrounding the equine industry.

Crossing all horse breeds and disciplines, Fershtman’s practice serves a national clientele of stables, industry professionals, associations, veterinarians, businesses, show management, insurance companies, trainers, clinicians and individual horse owners.

Fershtman is rated “AV,” the highest possible rating given by Martindale-Hubbell, an independent lawyer rating service. She is a 1983 graduate of Emory College, having earned two bachelor’s degrees, and a 1986 graduate of Emory Law School.

In 1995, Fershtman was named one of “21 Young Lawyers Leading the Nation into the 21st Century” by the American Bar Association’s Barrister Magazine. Crain’s Detroit Business selected her as one of “40 Best and Brightest Business Leaders Under 40” in the metropolitan Detroit area in 1996. In 2000, she became the youngest recipient of the Professionalism Award given by the Oakland County Bar Association, Michigan’s largest voluntary bar association.

For her work in the equine industry, Fershtman has received many honors. She was honored with the Partner in Safety Award from the Certified Horsemanship Association in 1997. In 1998, the American Riding Instructors Association presented her with an Outstanding Achievement Award.

The author of two books, Equine Law & Horse Sense and MORE Equine Law & Horse Sense, Fershtman’s work has helped the equine industry understand and avoid legal disputes. She is the most sought-after speaker on equine law in the country.
