Geise Appointed Dean of the College of Sciences

Findlay, Ohio, April 1, 2004 — Mary Jo Geise, associate professor of computer science, has been named dean of the College of Sciences at The University of Findlay, effective today.

Geise has been with the University since 1982, first serving as an instructor of mathematics and then as assistant professor of mathematics and computer science from 1982-89. In 1989, she was named assistant director of computer services. She was named director of the computer science program in 1998.

Daniel May, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs, said, “Mary Jo is an adaptive, data-driven decision maker who is also cognizant of individual faculty and staff needs. I expect her to provide solid leadership within the College of Sciences and work effectively with the other deans and directors within academic affairs.”

Prior to coming to Findlay, Geise was a math specialist at Penta County Joint Vocational School in Perrysburg, Ohio, and also worked as a substitute teacher for Washington Local School District in Toledo and as a graduate assistant at Bowling Green State University.

A member of UF’s Faculty Senate since 1998, Geise also serves on the Faculty Development Committee. She chaired the Academic Computer Users Committee and was a member of the Administrative Computer Users Committee and the Committee on Committees.

A 1977 graduate of Slippery Rock State College in Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education/mathematics, Geise went on to earn a master’s degree in mathematics at Bowling Green State University in 1979 and a master’s degree in computer science from Bowling Green State University in 1985.

Geise is a member of numerous professional organizations and has served her community as a board member for the Findlay Area Swim Team and the Findlay YMCA Swim Team. She is involved in the Findlay High School soccer and swim programs and the swim program at The University of Findlay. She also was co-leader of the Technology Planning Committee at Van Buren Schools.

Geise and her husband have two children. They live in Findlay.
