UF Presents a Photography Lecture

Findlay, Ohio, Sept. 13, 2004 – Terry Barrett, Ph.D., professor of art education at The Ohio State University, will give a public lecture on “Interpreting Photographs” Monday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m., in the Pfeiffer Lecture Hall, Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion, at The University of Findlay.

Barrett is an expert in teaching art criticisms.

He is the author of “Criticizing Photographs: An Introduction to Images,” “Criticizing Art: Understanding the Contemporary” and “Talking About Student Art.” He edited an anthology, “Lessons for Teaching Art Criticism,” and he is a former senior editor of the “Studies in Art Education” research journal.

He has been a visiting scholar at the Getty Educational Institute for the Arts in Los Angeles, the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Ariz., Colorado State University, the University of Georgia and Ball State University.

He serves as a critic-in-education for the Ohio Arts Council, engaging school and community groups in discussions about contemporary art.

Barrett holds a bachelor’s degree in art and philosophy from Webster College and master’s and doctorate degrees in art education from Ohio State.

Refreshments will be served following the lecture.
